This was a whole different aesthetic than my Afuri in Ebisu. After a lifetime of cramped quarters in Tokyo, the team decided to stake out as much space as they could possibly find in a Portland warehouse east of the river. Bigger space, bigger kitchen, bigger menu. Jess had the vegetarian hazelnut tantanmen– definitely a new thing for Portland– and it was one of the most flavorful and rich vegetarian ramens I have tasted. Me? I got the classic shio and relived my memories of Ebisu.
